The best Vietnamese fish cake pho I had. Very unique taste. Always full with customers but worth the wait.
Busy all the time. Food comes out fast. One of the better Pho places in Vancouver. Soup is tasty and decent sized portions. Place is small so you may have to share a table.
Good bun cha ca and beef noodles. Had take out once after they reopen, the noodles definitely taste better dine in! Priced increased after they reopen from covid closure.
Been here on multiple occasions and they never disappoint! I usually order #24 Special Fish Cake & Vermicelli. Absolutely my favourite selection and the dill makes it so good. My friends recommend #23 if you like crab/Vietnamese ham. Reasonable prices and decent service!
Very good noodles soup. In general everything was tasty and well prepared. I don’t give the fifth star because we called to check the opening time and they confirmed that we could arrive al 21.00, we arrived ad 20.45 and we had a little argue to let us allow to sit and have the dinner.
Keeping the quality especially their famous beef soup. Size is smaller compared to last year. Price is fair and good size of dishes. Don't expect a very clean environment to eat and sit since the restaurant is always busy and no time to serious clean the table. Hard to find parking if few stalls occupied at the back.
Bun Cha Ca means fried fish cake noodle (I think) and is definitely worth a try (#24 on the menu). The soup base is rich and contains a decent portion of lemon grass and dill. The restaurant seats at most 44 people in 9 separate tables so be prepared to share a table with someone if you are solo or a duo. Line ups are frequent so try and come a half hour or so before closing. If you entreat them even if they are closed they may just let you in.
The food is always fresh. The table top is clean. And the service is really fast. We just discovered this driving by one day and what a gem of a small restaurant this is
#23 and #24 are the most popular options. The crab meat broth and fish cake broth. They are very different bowls, one being very rich and strong flavors and the other being more light and delicate. Both are really good but also definitely has msg in the broth. Wait can be pretty bad here, and high chance you'll be sharing a table. Quick though.
Staff here have to come to recognize me, since I love Thai chilli's and as a customer this is a nice touch .👌
Very unique not the regular pho restaurant. Wife loves her crab fat noodle soup. Both noodle we ordered tasted great! Low in msg. Will return for more.
they were busy but served very fast. the fried squid taste good but it could have been better if it was crispy. the soup was a little bit too salty for me. overall it's good but i might had too high expectation because of the 600reviews and rating 4.4 lol. it was just a pho and as good as it should be
Fish cake noodle soup & crab noodle soup rocks. Kids and I love the pepper salt fried fish, the crunch is like no other. I recommend coming at non busy time as this place gets crowded. The servers are really nice here. Super friendly to my kids.
Delicious authentic vietnamese cuisine. Good portion size. Love the Iced coffee with condense milk.
Used to come here all the time because of the bun cha ca, but over time the quality just went down. The soup is bland and the noodles are too soggy. It was better 2 years ago
Bun Cha Ca Hoang Yen has some unique Vietnamese noodle soups along with well prepared standards like pho. Apparently the family have been fishermen. Their fish cake and squid cake noodle soups are excellent with a lot of fresh aromatic herbs and veggies in the soup. The place is very small but service is quick. Expect lines as it’s quite popular. I was able to get a table right away when I arrived at 10:30. They started filling up at 11.
Awesome and special crab soup vermicelli! So flavourful and natural. The beef pho is good but not the best. I would come back for the crab soup vermicelli. The place is a bit cramped. You will need to wait for seats during lunch hour.
Very unique fish cake noodle soup! I’ve never had it with dill before. Super tasty. Would have it again. This place does get busy though and they will combine customers onto the common tables. They speak Vietnamese, English, and Cantonese!
Best place in the city for bun cha ca! There is often a wait since the restaurant is small but it is definitely worth it. They also sell cha ca at their other store across the street. This is definitely one of those restaurants where you come and eat good food and leave since there are a lot of people waiting by the door who just stare at you while you're eating.
Staffs are super friendly, proper social distancing between tables, hand sanitizers on the tables. Pho is just simply fanstanic. Highly recommended.
Wow, this place is really great!! I love it!Their food was amazing. Very flavourful and HUGE portions sizes.I was so full and I didn't even scratch the surface of my noodle soup dish.Service was pretty fast. They gave us tea right away. They came back and took our order pretty quickly as we knew exactly what we wanted. We got the large bowl for a dollar more, I'd recommend getting that for a better value. If you cannot finish it, you can always take the rest home.I know I will be coming back here again and again to try the rest of their items. When you do go here, make sure to go on an empty stomach. You can thank me later.....All in all, a wonderful place with amazing food. I felt like I was in Vietnam for a little bit which was great. Would highly recommend. A+++
December 18, 2019. Recommended by a friend to try Hoang Yen Restaurant. Heard that it was super busy during "peak" times. Also saw the lineups when we were eating at another restaurant across the street. We arrived at around 4:30 pm and they only had a few tables available. Since there was only two of us we had to share the big table (for 6 people). We ordered two of their recommended dishes. One was crab noodle soup and the other was special fishcake noodle soup. Both were delicious but the crab soup was my favorite. Very satisfying meal!
Not a bad place to bring your friends for a good meal! Their soup is definitely better than most of the pho restaurants out there... Love their seafood and hot & sour soup base. Chicken wing is alright, nothing too special about them. Still prefer the ones from phom phen. Spring rolls are quite pricey, so that was a little weird. Other than that, good food! Make sure you get there early, or you'll be out there lining up!
One of the best Bun Cha Ca in the city! The Bun Rieu is also really good here. Expect to wait if you go during peak hours. Service can be a bit slow since it’s very busy.
Delicious as always. They have taken good measure for covid19.
Was brought here by a Vietnamese friend that highly recommended their famous fish cake, dill, and cilantro noodles - it did not disappoint. Ingredients were fresh and soup base was delicious. Shrimp salad roll was pretty standard but their spring rolls are a lot smaller than the ones from a typical Vietnamese restaurant. The place is small but service is quick. There is usually a large line out the door.
Very special crab noodle soup. Chicken wings are good. They give different kinds of vegetables and jalapeños to put in the soup which is tasty. Their seafood and beef soup is not the best I had before. But it’s worth to try their crab noodle soup.
CASH ONLY! Excellent pho broth here, perhaps the best I've had. Don't expect a fancy pants atmosphere here. You get straight-up good authentic Vietnamese dishes here, that's it. Order quickly, eat faster, pay and get out so others aren't waiting at the door for a table... If you wanna chit chat go to a cafe. Always busy, but that's a good thing!
I only come here for their fish cake and seafood/crab soup noodles. So addicted, I call them drug soup noodles! Getting the noodles as takeout is not as fresh and hot as eating at the restaurant but the takeout satisfies my cravings for drug noodles.
The pho soup was quite salty, but the Bun cha cha soup was flavorful. Chicken wings are good but a bit oily.
My first meal every time I get off the plane. My favourite noodles are 24 or 25. Dilly fresh warm noodles with fish cakes or cuttlefish patties. There is almost always a line up.
Very great crab soup noodle and fish cakes. Parking can be tough. Long line up usually. Very pleasant staff
Waited 20 minutes in the cold! But it was well worth it! Great tasting broths. We def will be back
Tasty broth, lots of meat, fresh veggies.. Staff are very friendly! Best Vietnamese restaurant in town
Don't understand why this place is busy. Waited for 10 minutes for our seats. First of all, ventilation in the dinning room was bad, particularly in the warm afternoon. Smell in the restaurant was not inviting. Seating was so tight. Food was ok in general. Pork and beef grilled little over time. So it was hard and dried. Overall, nothing to write home about. Disappointed, especially seeing how high rating from other users.
